Timeline of Redemption: Daniel’s Seventy Weeks

In this great chapter of Daniel 9, we have explored the prayer of Daniel on behalf of Israel and have seen that an answer to his petition has arrived. The angel Gabriel has announced that God has revealed what will transpire for Israel and the world. This week we will study the seventy weeks decreed, “to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy place” (Dan. 9:24). This is one of the most sweeping statements in the prophetic Word, as it encompasses everything leading up to and beyond the life and death of Christ, all the way to the end of history.
